Peoria Academy

Who We Are

Peoria Academy now serves students in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Student growth has been significant since the school's inception with a current enrollment of 330 students. In most grade levels, Peoria Academy has two classes per grade level. Class sizes are small, with no more than 20 students per class. What makes Peoria Academy so unique is its method of teaching. Individual differences among students are acknowledged and embraced. Multi-sensory teaching styles are provided to engage all learning styles. The classes are often divided into small groups, which rotate frequently to allow students opportunities to learn material in a variety of ways. Activities within these small groups vary, allowing for cooperative learning, individualized instruction and active learning. While textbooks are used in the classroom, they are resources for learning, but are not the sole source of information. Projects and group work are common. We provide computers in each classroom, but also encourage the use of our mobile computer lab equipped with the latest technology. The curriculum also encompasses the fine arts and foreign language for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades. The school program constantly strives to enrich the students' learning. Two days a week children in Kindergarten through eighth grade gather for fifteen minutes for "Morning Opening", which is a unique, intellectually stimulating experience to start the day. It is during this time people from the community are invited to share their expertise that may relate to the monthly school theme, or the students may learn about famous people and events in history, or  students will present plays generated from the classroom. Peoria Academy is dedicated to the academic and personal growth of each child. It's a safe and nurturing environment providing each child with a foundation for life.
