Peoria Academy

PA Community

Our school community reaches outside the walls of our school.  A strong value of our school is to serve others, and this value is put into action in a number of different ways.

Our 8th grade Spanish class has traveled to Friendship House, in Peoria, to work with Hispanic populations who are learning to read English.  In addition, all of our 8th graders will visit Southside Mission several times a year to read with the preschool classes.

Every faculty member and student is part of a “Star Team”, and each month the Star Teams will work cooperatively to assist someone in need locally or in the world.  Our Star Teams have made blankets for local Red Cross disaster victims, collected canned goods for food pantries, and raised funds for disaster victims and supported the Heifer Project.

In December, our school will reach out to individuals in need by contributing toys or coats, items for nursing home patients, or gifts for soldiers.

We have recently initiated a service club, “The Builder’s Club”, which meets monthly and involves any interested middle school student. The purpose is for club members to identify a need in our city and design and implement a solution to this problem.

As future leaders, our hope is that our children will be empathetic to others who are not as fortunate as themselves and will take the initiate to support these individuals and/or be a part of the solving problems in our local and global community.
