Spanish Teacher

Full-Time Teaching Position Beginning August 2023

Peoria Academy (PA), is an independent, coeducational, progressive PK-8 school founded in 2000 in Peoria Illinois. PA is in the process of being authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. We are implementing both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in PK-5 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6-8. The Spanish teacher will have the opportunity to be involved in furthering our approach to language learning during an exciting and dynamic time in Peoria Academy’s history.
At Peoria Academy, learning an additional language increases students’ cultural competence in becoming more
internationally-minded as global citizens. Starting in Pre-Kindergarten, students receive instruction in an interactive
approach to Spanish. Upon transitioning into middle school in Grade 6, students continue their language learning in
Spanish with emphasis on increased interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive communication proficiency via
expanded exposure to varied vocabulary and grammatical structures in multiple contexts. Language learners develop
the tools needed to become effective communicators. International understanding, cultural awareness, and historical
knowledge are enhanced through cultural readings and by studying the daily life (products, practices, perspectives) of
Spanish-speaking people around the world.

The Spanish teacher works in close collaboration with other faculty and is responsible for delivering a strong program of
instruction that is aligned with both the PYP and MYP. In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to participate
in the life of an independent school, exhibit a growth mindset, actively seek to collaborate, integrate technology into
instruction, understand child development, and serve as positive ambassadors for Peoria Academy and its students.
